Crayfishing at Wallby
From 2,995 SEK Per guestAs summer slowly turns to autumn, you can experience traditional crayfishing in Småland. We fish with scoop nets and pots, lay nets and search them early when the sun rises. Together, we then enjoy the freshly caught crayfish at a traditional Swedish crayfish party with pies, crispbread, beer and schnapps. At Wallby Manor, we go crayfishing from 1 August to the last day of September.
HERE’S HOW IT’S DONE
Check in at Wallby in the early afternoon and make yourself at home in one of the red cottages with white corners. The activities start with coffee and sandwiches, perhaps outdoors or on the jetty, weather permitting. Then we gather by the gazebo down by the water to run through how crayfishing is done. We start by emptying the nets. We then use the fish we catch to bait the pots before we set off out in the boats. We also fish by the shore and jetty with scoop nets, and we may put out a net to catch some nice perch. In the evening, there’s a competition – the biggest crayfish wins. The winner gets to take live crayfish home.
When we have finished crayfishing, you can take a dip in the lake before dinner, which will of course consist of freshly cooked crayfish as the main component, Småland delicacies and dessert, suitable drinks, and coffee perhaps with a small drink (drinks are extra).
Early the next morning we light a big fire by the lake. We serve freshly brewed coffee and then set off in the boats to empty the pots. Then, a leisurely breakfast and it’s time to head home.
